Winchester Model 97 16 ga

I recieved from my fathers accumulations this gun. I believed the gun to have been re-blued/re-finished. Upon further inspection/cleaning it appears to be like new and not refinished at all. I asked a good friend who is a gun builder/expert to have a look and he concurs that this 97 built in 1941 must have been simply stored in a secure/dry place for all these years. It's like new in box. I know the family that passed on the gun to our family and they very easily might have just decided to not ever use it. I'm quite curious what a relatively rare "NIB" 97 might be worth?

    Hello Wally,

    First order of business... what is the serial number? With the serial number, I can positively identify the year it was made.

    Second order of business... can you post or send me pictures of the gun?

    Third, what variation of the Model 97 is it? What is the barrel length, the choke, etc.?

    Bert, I'll reconfirn the serial #, I already ran it and discovered the mfr year. I'l take a few images and post them this weekend with balance of details.

    The currently published references (both in the various books and on the internet) are not accurate for the Model 1897/97. I have a copy of the actual serialization records held by the Cody Firearms Musuem that list the year ending Model 1897/97 serial numbers through 1957. From those, I can positively identify the year, and closely estimate the month of manufacture.
