sks help

O.K. all, My father-in-law just bought me a SKS. I wouldn't heve bought it myself but would never give up a free gun, besides it looks good. My question is, how do I get all the greese or is it cosmoline off this gun. Its everywhere and I'm afraid I will damage wood stock. please help.

  is ther a site that explains sks and different manfuctures and styles years and such ?
  i belive that i have accuired one and would like to know more about it.
