What's a completed Caspian Tactical 1911 Worth?
I'm interested in buying a kit from Caspian arms that my gunsmith neighbor would do the bulk of the work in assembling. He's giving me a good deal because it will display his workmanship and he's a friend.
Caspian has given me a discount on the price, so less than $1,000. It would breach confidentiality to give the actual written price.
What I'd like to know is how much this would be worth give or take, if I kept it in excellent condition and put it on Gunbroker a year from Now.

IMHO, the best measure of what something WILL sell for, it the price it IS selling for. Go over to auctions, and smart search for caspian, closed in last 90 days. There are some pricy ones that were produced by a master pistolsmith THAT IS WELL KNOWN- and others that are in the $500 or less range. And there is carbon steel, stainless steel, titanium, 45, 38 Super, tacticals, race guns, etc etc etc. And your friend may want to see if the ATF considers this to be "Manufacturing", even tho starting with a completed receiver. They have been getting difficult with some of the custom gunsmiths in THEIR definition of manufacturing. 0 -
Unless he gets his name and pictures of his guns in national publications, you would do well to recover the price of the parts. You might do a little better considering your sweetheart deal from Caspian, but I doubt you would recover much of the assembly expense. 0 -
Hello You can Buy both frames and Slides as well as all parts direct from Caspian at Camp Perry each year "at least you could up to 2005 the last year that I attended". These are some of the best Quality parts (unless you buy a factory second) that you can get and If you have a master pistol-smith use these parts you can end up with one fine high value pistol. However you can take these same parts {pistol in a bag} and have BUBBA cobble them together and have a $250.00 unsafe P.O.S. value is NOT in the parts but in the workmanship "FIT and FINISH" . Trying to sell a great pistol put together by an unknown is a very hard sell and only bring good money if it can be proven by testing in a ransom rest and in your hand thatvit is worthy of the value you put on it. 0 -
Knowlegeable buyers will zero-in on the gunsmith. If you have to sell it, price will go up if his name/workmanship is known in shooting circles (and you can prove that it was his work on the gun). You will be asked his name, so the buyer can check for himself if he's well respected in the competition shooting community. No name, or an unknown name will cause its value to be little more than the sum of the parts. Best, Joe 0 -
