H & R 1906

I just purchased a H & R 1906 22 rf and had a dumb question. Is this tiny pistol a 22 lr or do you have to use 22 shorts ? The lr fits in the cylinders, but the gun is so tiny, I'm afraid to shoot it with lr's in it - lol.

  They were designed to fire short, long or long rifle standard velocity cartridges available from 1906 to around 1940, which I understand were either blackpowder or mixed bp and nitro powder cartridges back then. I would not shoot any of mine with modern 22 long rifle cartridges. I have shot one using the Aguila Super Colibri cartridges - primer powered only. Your call, but I err on the side of caution.

  Thanks Jim, I appreciate it. I think I will stick to shorts, the whimpiest I can find ! I just didn't feel good about shooting my cci's or yellow jackets in them.
