When is a gun NOT a gun?

I have a Winchester .22 Model 190 which I broke a piece off of. I'm looking to sell it for parts. Can someone be specific as to what I can/can't sell as parts only. No FFL required etc...Here's the part of the piece that broke.

    the receiver (part with the serial number) is the gun. the rest is not and does not require an FFL

    Yep. The part with the SerNo stamped on it is the gun, the whole gun, and nothing but the gun.

    All other parts are/can be handled W/O regard to firearms regs in the US.

    Looks like you have the trigger assembly. It fits into the receiver, am I correct? Should have no restrictions provided item in photo is not the receiver. You will have to confirm that it is not the receiver, as I am unfamiliar with that particular model.

    If it is the receiver, the parts shown inside (hammer, etc.) can be removed, and sold separately W/O restriction. Best, Joe

    Below is a link to an exploded view of the firearm in your post. Click on it, and notice part No. 36. That's the receiver, and needs to be handled like a firearm. Any other part shown in the diagram can be sold W/O restriction in the US. Best again, Joe

    Why not put it all back together and go plinking, instead of selling it?
    Or assemble it ,then sell it, i'm sure it'd be worth more as a working rifle...

    Winchester .22's from the '60's & 70's are just about the lowest quality guns ever made----castings, stampings, rivets, impressed checkering, etc. In other words, junk; you may be able to replace some assemblies, but repairs are usually not possible.

    Fishkiller may be right. You might be able to pick up a used trigger assembly for a 190 or 290 from Numrich or the auction side of this forum.

    Otherwise, the mag tube & follower are likely the only parts you can easily recover & for which there could be a market.

    I was intending on selling it whole, but a piece broke off the trigger mechanism...see the listing...so I decided to part it out. You ask how the thing broke...Well, I was taking it apart to tighten the forestock and I f*(@ED it up good. Applied too much pressure and boom! Now instead of a PieceOs I have a PileOS....Live and learn!
