7.62x25mm Tokarev ammo question
I recently overheard a friend state that 7.62 tokarev ammo was going to be banned because of the overpenetration and that it was designed just for full auto weapons.Anyone else heard about this or is it just a rumor ? I have a Romanian TT-33 Tokarev and I would like to be able to get more ammo for it.any help is appreciated,thanks.

I seem to think that if they were to ban it,they would have done so by now,like they did with the 5.7x28mm(forgive me if thats not the right caliber)rounds FNH made for the military P90. 0 -
Its BS.
First of all, 9mm is plenty popular in submachine guns, and nobody has banned that one (yet). There are also submachine guns that take .45ACP, .380, and just about every other common pistol auto cartridge.
So by itself, that isn't a plausible reason to ban a cartridge.
Next, pretty much any of the big magnum handgun cartridges (eg .41 magnum, .44 magnum, etc) can penetrate a ballistic vest.
Lastly, pretty much any centerfire rifle of significant caliber can penetrate a ballistic vest including just about all of the most popular hunting calibers (eg .308, 30'06, all the magnums, etc. . .)
So the logic here doesn't make sense.
Not that it HAS to make sense for politicians to ban things. . .they love to do that. . .but I just doubt this is true.0 -

FWIW, I THINK the 7.63 Tok was based on the .30 Mauser cartridge- at a time when it was the cartridge of choice for the Broomhandle Mauser PISTOL- not a submachinegun.
You could just as easily start a rumor that .22 LR is going to be banned, because it was the favorite round for hit men, and frequently you can't get ballistic matches on that soft tiny little bullet...0 -

The 7.62x25 Tokarev is dimensionally identical to the 30 cal. Mauser pistol cartridge developed in 1893, well before submachine guns were devised. Military Tokarev loadings are about 100fps faster than 30 Mauser ammo. 0
