Rifle scopes
Does anyone know the quality of A1 optic scopes? They claim to have been making scopes for the military and are now starting offer there products to the pucblic. I have recently purchase a 300wsm model 70 in SS. I want to instal a 2.5 to 10 power scope with 50mm objective lens or a 3 to 12 power scope with 50mm objective lens. Should I also be considering AOE, range finder, etc.?

At one point I tried one of the BSA Platnium 6x24x40AO scopes. It wasn't awful, it wasn't great either. I later tried a couple of their lesser lines and they were midlen awful. All have been either sold off indivually or included in package deals so as to be rid of them. I haven't tried any of the others brands you listed and am not likely to anytime soon. My attitude these days about scopes is Burris Fullfield II is the minimum scope for a larger centerfire cartridge rifle that can't fail in the field. Cheap scopes are regulated to light recoiling cartridges, like 223, 17hmr and 22lr. Ammo costs the way they are these days a good scope will pay for itself in a couple of years shooting without having to mess around with cheap scopes going off or failing...... 0 -
All of the above named scopes you are looking at have no real value in my opinion. The Nikko Sterling has okay glass but the durability factor and repeatability just aren't there. If I needed a cheapie scope and didn't mind if it went south on me in a couple years...it would be the only one I would buy from that group.
You really would be better served by getting a Nikon, Redfield (new ones now are good) Weaver, Leupold, Burris. If you can find a late 80's through 90's Tasco World Class (made in Japan) then that is a decent scope (although there is better glass out there).
It is true to a certain extent that with scopes you get what you pay for. There is a huge disparity in the bottom line scopes to the top of the line scopes where this is true. Once you hit the very top end you may end up paying the difference of 3-4 times what you would pay for one lower end scope. Meaning you might buy an entry scope for $200. Upper end scopes have as much as $600-$800 difference from one outstanding scope to another, where the differences seem hardly noticeable.0 -
I like the Nikon Buckmasters scopes. Recently, I bought a BSA and tried it out on a .45-70 buffalo classic. My results were not good. My bore sighter said the scope was zeroed and the scope kept sending bullets over the target stand at 100 yards. Needless to say I will be replacing that scope sometime this week with either a Leupold or Nikon. 0 -
All are very low end and all are bested by Bushnell if you must go cheap. Better to save your rubles and by Burris or even Leupold. 0 -
Tinman, Buy a Burris and cry once. All the scopes you list are low end. Burris scopes in Burris Signature rings will serve you a lifetime. 0 -

This is towards TommyTornado bore sighting only aligns the bore of the barrel to the sight line of the scope. I've probably bore sighted 400 rifles in my life and only had 1 that hit dead center in the bulls eye. I had 10-15 of them that didn't hit the paper that is why you sight it in at a 25 yard range and go out from there. Some of these scopes were cheap and some were not. Bore sighting is only supposed to put you on the paper and then you sight it in from there on the target. You are using an artillery round and you expect a bore sighted rifle will print dead center. 45-70's are neat rifles but there not target guns. 0 -
Nikko Stirling if I had to choose from that list. I would probable save up to afford a burris(even a timberline) a bushnell(3200)or a Nikon. I have no experience with Redfield but Sand seems to know his stuff, so from your list and price point, Nikko or Redfield. 0 -

next week after breaking your scope and burning a $30 box of ammo you'll ask "whats the best scope for $100" which you will ask again until you get a decent one0 -
+1 NIKON Nikon's low end= prostaff 3x9x40 bdc $125 ...............I have three on rifles chambered in 300wsm 270 223 all have hiked all over creation on foot on horses, 4wheelers, snowmobiles they have bean shaken up and generally beet up every chance I get for three years running and I have yet to have any problems whatsoever......no reason to go cheeper than that! Allot of bang for the buck and that is a "cheep scope", the ones you listed are a waist of time. 0
