Ammo Question

Ok, this may sound stupid, but I have never really understood the difference between .38 Special and .38 Special +P. I have had only a limited amount of experience with a .38 Special for starters. I guess I just need to know what the difference between the two is, does +P have to be shot through a "special" type of .38 revolver and can I shoot +P through a .357 revolver?

  as ive understood it 308 is a higher pressure round then 7.62. while 308 is safe to shoot in semi auto rifles chamered for 7.62 it is harder on them. where any rifle chambered for 308 can handle any 7.62 rds. i wouldnt bet the bank on that though.

  Briefly, the 7.62x51 refers to a particular NATO standard military load.
  
  That military loads should be safe to use in any rifle chambered in .308 Winchester.
  
  On the other hand, there are commercial .308 loads that are hotter than the NATO load.
  
  So using .308 loads in military 7.62x51 guns *could* be a problem, both in terms of accelerating wear on the gun (eg in M1A/M14-style guns with op rods), and potentially (in already marginal guns or badly worn ones) a safety issue.
