british #5 jungel carbine, some were recently imported and sold for +- $200, yours looks in v.good. cond and would probaly sell for slightly more. check the auction side under smle #5, or jungle carbine.

By the markings on the action, it appears to be a Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk I made up to look like a No.5 Mk I Jungle Carbine. This link has some photographs to explain the differences:

These conversions are fakes if I'm identifying this one correctly.

The Lee-Enfields though have been the workhorses of the British and Canadian military for decades. Most were chambered for the .303 British cartridge which is just slightly less powerful than the U.S. .30-06 Springfield cartridge.

There is a ton of information about these rifles as well as the Jungle Carbines on the web.

The No.5's had a metal fore end cap, that one looks like a shortened No.4 fore end (just raw wood).
