Looking for Rem 870 Secret Service shotgun
I want to purchase a new or used Remington 870 12 Ga. shotgun, same as used by Secret Service. They have a fold over stock and 14 inch barrel. I know you have to pay a transfer tax to ATF. Anyone know of any dealers that handling this firearm?

You will need to find a Class III dealer in your home state, and have them order for you. First, check to see if a Short Barreled Shotgun (also search sawed off shotgun) is legal in your state. If so, dealer can handle paperwork, including the $200 transfer tax. 0 -

Short Barrelled Shotgun, or AOW, is a $5.00 transfer tax, if legal in your state.
AL state law a sawed off shotgun (barrel less than 18", overall less than 26") is illegal, but AOW is legal.0 -

No it is not. ALL From 1 (making NFA) or Form 4 (transfer of NFA) is $200 the ONLY exception to this is an AOW transfer (making is the $200) which is $5.
Also I think that "sawed off" is a bad term to use for an SBS (short barreled shotgun) or an AOW (any other weapon). Anyone can legally saw off a shotgun barrel any time they want. There is nothing illegal about it. It is ILLEGAL to have or make a shotgun with barrels shorter then 18" without proper approval.0 -

FWIW- an AOW- Any Other Weapon- is NOT a short barreled shotgun. If a shotgun has never had a shoulder stock, and was made as a pistol, it may be in the AOW class- and the transfer fee is $5.
However, if it fires a shotgun shell, has (or ever had) a shoulder stock, and barrel is less than 18" (overall 26") it is a short barreled shotgun- transfer fee $200.
My H&R Handi-gun was made as a shot pistol- never had a shoulder stock, 10" barrel, smoothbore .410- and is an AOW.0 -
save yourself the money...get yourself a 870 Police Magnum, add a nice Knoxx stock to it and you'll have a fine self defense shotgun...
price aside...not sure I'd like to have to individually register a gun with the ATF as an AOW or SBS because it has a shorter barrel...especially if its only 4" shorter0 -

If the barrel is less than 18", registration with the ATF is required no ands, ifs, or buts.0 -

Years ago I worked with Secret Service protection details on more than one occasion. Designated close-in agents were given the option of carrying either an Uzi or a shorty 870 as described.0
