shot gun pattern

at what distance from the end of the barrel will #4 shot start to open up, to say a 3' pattern. this a mossberg 835 with a 24" barrel, using federal 3.5 shells. not sure of the dia. it is listed as an extra full

  What choke?
  
  If it has any choke at all, to get a three foot pattern will take 30 yards or more.

  Extra full 40 or more yards. Only way to tell is to test the gun on a paper target.
