Leather stamping help please.

I have some heirloom pieces that I would like to stamp with their provenance before passing them on to my kids.

I seem to recall that this can't be well done, since the pieces are hard-surfaced and polished.

Any help ??

    Pretty hard to emboss hard leather, usually it's damp when thats done...
    Maybe a electric pencil would work for your needs.....

    Doug that is pretty hard to do unless the leather has been cased.(wet) I repair a great deal of saddles and it would not turn out great unless you are stamping only a small amount. If it is worth something it is better not to add to the original work. The value decreases greatly. Good luck and go see your local saddle maker.

    Maybe I should have a brass or silver tag engraved, and riveted to the pieces ??

    It's important to me, especially since one of my Hero Sons does not bear my surname.

    I would not change from original nor affix anything new. I would write out what you want to say, laminate it and keep it with the leather goods.
