correct sight on 1905?

someone on another forum thinks the rear peep sight is not original to the gun. he based his opinion on the photo below.
its marked marples, gladstone with a 1908 patent.
any ideas?

    It's a Marbles tang peep sight. They were added as an aftermarket sight to many brands of rifles.

    so, did this replace an existing peep or was it just added on to the gun?

    Just added. The origional (correct) rear sight is a barrel mounted "V" notch

    There is a chance that it was factory installed. I own a Model 1905 with a factory installed Lyman No. 1A tang sight.

    that's what i was wondering.
    seems that grandady liked having guns, but didn't know squat about them. can't see him adding on a peep sight!

    Here's the other thread. Tang sight turned out to be a Marbles "W9" code for the Winchester models 1890 and 1906.

    OK, that fact that it is a "W9" marked sight rules it out as being factory installed.
