ammo ID

,,,,need help identifying what appears to be miniature shotgun shells,,,,,they are no larger than a .22LR and are loaded with sawdust like substance,,,,,have pix but unable to get them to post on GB,,,,,any ideas what they might be used for ?????????

    I was loading some AK magazines the other day in prep for going to the range. I keep an ammo can of loose 7.62 X 39.

    While loading my mags I encountered 10 rounds of ammo mixed in with my AK ammo. Dont know how it got in there. This ammo is 7.62 and has a case 1/4" longer than AK ammo and 1/4" shorter than .308 - 7.62 X 51. Anyone know what caliber it is?

    Czech 7.92x57 Mauser, made in 1937 (I can't remember if VII is the month code, or a case revision number).
    The jacket is most likely "crupo-nickle", not steel.
    The case is most likely steel. You didn't say, but is there a St. in the headstamp (St=steel)

    Safe to shoot, just be sure to flush your barrel with water afterwards (to remove the corrosive priming salts)

    the markings listed are the only markings, figured it was some type cheap nickle as a few have rust pitting on bulletts. they are solid tipped so no good for hunting? if not I can plink them up for $5. thanks for info.

    CN is a older Copper Nickle alloy for bullet jackets, what is used to day is GM (Guilding metal) which is a Copper Zink alloy.
    Definatly NOT a hunting (expanding) type bullet

    One way to tell if there steel jackets (or cases) is with a cheap refrigator magnet (if it sticks, it's steel). The weak magnets won't "detect" a steel core. If it dosn't stick to a weak magnet, but is attracted to a strong one, assume it's steel cored also

    hillibillie, let me know when the next good show is there. I am going to take the wife for a ride and visit my friends and her brother and I thought I could meet up with you. It would be nice to meet someone from GB face to face for a gun show and a cup of coffee Besides I think I have been to all the shows in PA, Deleware and Maryland and am tired of seeing all the same guns.Some times a little change is nice and we like to take rides in the mountains.
