Garand Scope Question.

I have an M1D, it has all the goodies except the scope. The scope rings are nice and sturdy and better than any other garand mount out there. Now I can get an M84 sniper scope repro or original but they are pricey for a 2.2x scope. I have also heard they are not that great, please tell me if I am wrong.
Now here is my question, is there any other high quality scope out there that fits 7/8 original Garand rings?

    At the time that the M84 was adopted (April 1945), it was considered state of the art for combat sniper use. Unlike it's predecessor (the Weaver 330 series), the M84 is a sealed scope & still performs well. The only real problem is that the inside of the tube is painted black, & eventually will flake.

    Fortunately for you, the Lyman Alaskan scope is relatively cheap & is considered a "correct" scope for the M1D. The US military primarily used the M81 & M82 versions of the Alaskan, but some M1D's with Alaskan scopes have recently been sold by CMP. These scopes fit the 7/8" original Garand rings.
