HS stock?

I have a stock that is cracked out at the end by the barrel channel. What would be the best way to repair that. Once that is done, what would be the best way to refinish the stock. I was thinking of a sand color?

    Send it to HS and let them fix it. If you spend that kind of money on a stock you should get some kind of warranty out of it. I'd give them a call and talk to them.

    Accuglas will hold it together, along with most any other kind of adhesive.
    Drill a small hole at the end of the crack to prevent it going further, and epoxy it all together, and clamp it or use surgical tubing to hold it together till it dries.....
    Lots of colored paints to check out at the hardware place...
    You can do it yourself a lot quicker than HS ever will[:)]

    I tend to agree with Moose on this. Send it back to HS. They most likely will send a new one. I have never had a problem with their quality, but know they like a happy customer. Give them a shout, and see what they say...can't hurt. On the other hand if you attempt a fix, and botch it...you might be on your own then.

    I Thought of HS but the stock is on a Remington PSS and wasn't bought direct from HS. So I figured they would want anythong to do with it. I guess it wouldn't hurt to call them. THANKS. PS what type of paint works best? I seen some stuff my wife had for a project that left a textured finish.

    Look in the Brownells on-line catalog. I am sure they have paints in there that are textured, in the colors you are looking for, and are more chemically resistant than your wifes.

    send a letter or call remington and HS outlining the problem,be truthfull and polite. one of them should take care of the problem. i bought a ruger 77 in 338 win. mag with a split stock for a good price. one call to ruger had a replace stock on the way for free. eastbank.

    You don't really need any more encouragement but I'll go with calling H-S and Remington first. Always try to give the manufacturers a chance to make good first. If that fails, then talk to mrbruce or other members that can walk you through the repairs by yourself.

    Textured spray paint comes in a variety of surface treatments from rocker panel sprays to stone to webbing spray that looks just like the ones that H-S supplies. I know folks that have used truck bed spray for a final coat on synthetic stocks.

    Many of these can be found at Mart stores, hardware stores and the home fix-it-yourself stores. Crafts stores have some also.

    Be sure to read the directions carefully and follow them. Some of these products require longer than normal drying times and others need a certain temperature range. Remember that surface preparation is the most important, cleanliness is second. For better resistance to wear and tear, use several coats of clear, letting each each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next one. These coats can be matte, satin or gloss depending on what you want.
