remington 742 bolt removal

I was wondering how to go about in removing the bolt from the receiver of a remington 742. Does it somehow come out the bottom without to much difficulty or is it more involved and requires removal of the forearm and speciality tools. The bolt will not close and lock up all the way forward. I would like to give it a good cleaning to see if this helps at least for starters. A fellow gave it to me and basically if I can get it to work I can keep it for nothing. Seemed like a reasonable deal since initially it won't cost me anything if I don't have to replace parts or take it to a gunsmith for repairs.

    Bolt comes out the front after you take the barrel off with a special wrench.

    sounds like the bolt latch is broken. common with this model.
    to remove the bolt, remove forend. nextremove barrel. brownells sells a wrench for this and NO a crescent wrench WILL NOT work.
    next, with the reciever in the up position, behind the bolt handle is a small pin. drive said pin out,TOP DOWN. this pin is splined so it goes back with the spines to the bottom. next, twist the bolt handle and pull out.NOW, slide the action bars out toward the front. be careful here, the bolt will fall out. hold everything together.
    i think yo will find the bolt latch is broken on the tip. there are two small spring and two small plungers under this part. the plungers are different so pay attention. i am tired of typing now so i hope this helps.
