22 target ammo
shooting some 22 target ammo,elley,midas + and midas center x.out of 4 shots,3 are real close and 1 is a flyer.what makes this happen.shooting off a bench at 30 yards.

My guesses in order of likelihood would be.
1) cheek weld changing
2) trigger control
3) shoulder pressure
4) your rifle does not like the ammo
5) scope shifting POI, loose or poor quality
6) Poor bag location
7) bedding or barrel issue

Check the rim thickness of the ammo. Variation in thickness gives various results. 0 -
If you change brands some times it will take 10 rounds because of the different brand of bullet lube used before the groups will settle down. I don't normally clean the bore on a 22 very often but I do it every time I change brands during testing. 0 -
my guess is trigger pull or ammo. My bl 22 loves the cheap federal in the bulk pack,36 grain hp but hates the remington and winchester wildcat ammo. 0 -
the best group we got was with eley tenex ammo,four shots that you could cover with a dime at 30 yards,and no flyer.if it would just do it every time.the rifle is a 22 cz 452 varmint with a tasco 6x24x40 scope,triger pull is alittle under 1 1/2 pound... 0 -

FWIW, have been shooting Nobel R-50 and Lapua Master at prices that can make you weep. But with incredible good results. One you may want to try that is not match ammo, but comes darn close in some of my old benchrest 22s- Federal Champion Target Standard Velocity. You can get the High Velocity several places, but Dick's has been the only place I could find the Standard Velocity. About $19.80 a brick of 500, and shoots MUCH more consistently than any of the run of the mill 22 LR.
PS- check the torque of the screws/bolts that hold action to stock.0 -

Two points:
The Federal Champion target is supposedly the same ammo as the Federal "Gold medal", only with less rigorous quality control. I've used it, and indeed this is very good stuff.
Unfortunately, unless something has changed very recently, Dicks doesn't stock this anymore.
As to why you'll get three shots in one place and a fourth in a different place, there are so many possible explanations, your head will spin.0
