Winchester 1894 DOM on serial number 183292. This gun just came into the shop and My info gives me 1899, just would like a second.....

    I'm looking for a date of manufacture for my dad's model 1894 30 WCF.
    Serial 4603XX. I've seen anywhere from 1907-10 depending on what source I'm looking at. (Octagnal 26"? barrel, takedown and crescent butplate). Thanks

    Look at the first 3 or four topics listed on this Forum . Bert H does a very good job describing the pit falls of Winchester dating and how to get a Cody letter that is correct information. theses post have the word STICKY beside them because they are asked over and over.

    Your Model 1894 Sporting rifle was manufactured circa April of 1910. Serial number 449102 was the last Model 1894 receiver serialized in 1909.

    Thanks for the info. I've looked around the stickies and found my number in between the "known range". The rifle still shoots decent groups at 100 yards. Not too bad for a rifle that turns 99 next month!

    For what its worth, if those old Winchesters were cleaned after having shot corrosive ammo in them, they will still shoot good for years. I have a 1892 that was made in 1895, in 38WCF(38-40)...it can still hit a 6 inch steel plate at 100 yards every time...at 114 years old. And yes...I shoot it often.
