M1A failure to close with reloads.

I recently bought a new springfield M1A (springfield commercial barrel). I went to shoot it and new winchester rounds loaded and cycled fine. Shot some surplus and it loaded and shot fine. When I went to shoot my reloaded they did not load. They stuck 1/8" out and the bolt would not close. The bullet and case length are the same as the commercial. I full length re-sized them with Lee Dies.

Would another brand re-size them better? Thanks for any help.

    improper resizing and improper bullet seating.

    Resize a case...will it chamber...if not need to resize more...now seat a bullet if it doesn't close either the case is to long, trim to proper length or seat bullet deeper until the bolt closes...those are the choices.

    Helps to read the whole post and not just the title...ok so I am human/ Could be the dies, you may need to go the a small base 308 set of dies...I had a similar problem, the dies were not sizing the bottom of the case small enough...measure a new case toward the base about .200 up from the rim...now measure one of your reloads...if the reload is larger than .470 could be the problem.

    My reloads measure .467"-.469".
    The new commercial rounds that chambered measured .464".

    Who makes/where can I get the small base die?

    A small base die's probably the answer. Grafs or Midway should have them.

    Get a case lenght gauge and you will not have problems with the case dimsions.

    Check the length of the reloaded brass cases, 7.62 stretches. Had the same problem. it always needs to be trimmed. No problems since.
