38 Auto-Made by Western

I have 9 boxes of 38 Auto ammo made by Western. It is pretty old. Came out of my g-pas old drug store. Just wondering if it is worth anything as far as being a collectable. Thanks for the help.

    IT DEPENDS ON HOW 'OLD' AND THE CONDITION OF THE BOXES, GOOD FOR SHOOTING IF NOTHING ELSE. WORKS IN OLDER COLT AUTO PISTOLS AND ANYTHING CHAMBERED FOR 9MM LARGO.

    Post photos of the boxes. Full boxes of older ammo that are in good shape, are collectable. Some collectors/dealers want a full box of original vintage ammo for each one of their guns.

    Even if not collectable, 38 auto is pricey stuff nowadays. Most of the ammo around now is 38 Super. You sure as heck don't want to be shooting that in the old Colts and Spanish made pistolias made for the 38 Auto. You put it on the auction with a fair price, and it will sell quick.

    My mistake, 2 boxes of Winchester 38 Auto and 7 boxes of Western 38 S&W. The Winchester boxes are a lot older then the Western ones. I will post pictures sometime this week. Thanks for the help guys.

    Your photos are out of focus, hard to see fine detail when the thumbs are expanded to full size. The Winchester and Western .38 Auto ammo is old stuff. If the boxes are in at least very good condition, they will be collectable. The 38 S & W, is modern made ammo, don't see it having much collectors value. Price it as shooting ammo.

    Yeah i dont have a very good camera. One of the winchester boxes is full and in pretty good condition. The other has 37 rounds and one of the end flaps is torn off. I still have it but is torn off. Thanks for taking a look rufe.

    The bottom pics of the Western .38 are very similiar to some old 45 Auto Western boxes that were passed down to me with brass. My dad had reloaded in the late 60's early 70's and used a lot of Western boxes to carry his reloads and he wrote the date and reload info on the boxes. Based on the way the .38 box looks I would say the Western ammo boxes could be from the time frame of the 60's or even early 70's. Just a guess.

    Swagg, i have a full box of 45 Auto with the exact same box as the 38. Do the serial numbers on these boxes help to date them?

    Hrbie, after looking at my boxes again they are a little different from yours in that in the center of the X it says "Super Match" instead of "Western". Other than that they appear to have identical features and color tones. The only serial numbers I could find were on the inside flap of the box. Based on the numbers there didn't appear to be any that coincided with the time period.
