Suggested AR Scope Mount

Earlier today I picked up a new Colt AR-15(.223), HBAR, MT6601 for what I consider a steal by today's market (just over $900 - I think I was in the right place at the right time). It has the standard MT6601 carry handle upper.

There are a lot of carry handle scope mounts available and there is a mix of horror stories of them not working well, losing zero or loosening. Before I join the ranks of the "don't by this brand, I learned the hard way", I want to ask this group.

Suggestions on what to get or should I just throw darts at the Midway catalog?

(If it helps, 4x scopes aren't enough for my eyes anymore so I will need to mount a regular scope to get out to about a 350m range. I haven't decided on that yet either. Anything beyond 300m I use .308 and while I appreciate guys who will argue and swear by the .223 as more than a 50-300m round I am not one of them.)

    There is one brand of quick detatch mounts for flat tops(if that is what you are talking about), and that is LaRue Tactical. check them out at

    TSR, Thank you for the feedback. The HBAR that I have has a carrying handle, it is not a flat-top. I wanted a flat-top, but overlooked the carrying handle in favor of the low cost.

    I did some looking at other threads where this topic was brought up - some very recent - and I am still hearing that it is basically a crap shoot for what works and doesn't work. That is somewhat troubling in the larger sense of the community that we don't have leaders in the AR community for making products that are the standard for all others to emulate. OR I am just reading this all incorrectly.

    I look forward to reading what other's experiences are like.

    I would look around for a flat top upper and put it on your gun. I been through to many did that seen that to put a big hunkin scope on that carry handle. I would not put any thing over a 4x on and it would be a compact at that.I had a Weaver 3x9 on a Leatherwood mount one of the sturdier mounts around and no matter what I did that scope would not work shimmed the hell out of it screwed with the mount nothing would work. It was a new scope at the time and so was the mount. The problem with putting a scope on the carry handle poses 2 main problems.
    Poor cheek weld and the scope being to high over the barrel. Try to even bore sight one of those beasts. I went to all flat top uppers with Bushnell Military & Police Red Dots and I too have eye problems especially with my shooting eye. The use of the red dot lets me see with both eyes open so I can see normal. Good Luck
