what is the difference ruger 77/22?
hello
what is th edifference in the action of a 77/22 in 22lr, 77/22 in 22mag and 77/22 hornet? do they all yuse the same action just different barrels? i dont know because 1 want a 77/22 in 22lr but have good chances at the 77/22 22 hornet. if they are the same action does that mean you can have 1 gun with a 17 mach2, 22lr, 22mag, 17hmr and 22 hornet by just changing the barrel and a different magazine? your help would be appreciated as i have a gun show to go looking at this weekend.

Well I can only help a bit.
22 has one length action that is also the same length as the .17 mach 2
22 mag is another length that is the same length as the .17 HMR
I dont know anything about the Hornet.
Of course barrels are all different for each caliber.0 -
Having a group of them, my bet is you could buy the 22 lr rifle, then add a Mach 2 barrel. You could buy the 22 mag rifle, then add an HMR barrel. Probably no bolt change needed. The 22 Hornet stands on it's own - no interchangability there.
These are of course just suppositions based on having a few of the above.
Personally, I'd just buy the 22 lr, the HMR and the 22 Hornet rifles separately.0 -
As Nwcid says, they are each different action lengths. I am not sure if the 22LR and 22 WMR have different bolt face diameters, but the Hornet is for sure. The LR and WMR barrels have a barrel retaining block like the Ruger 10/22, where as the it is held in with two hex head machine cap screws. Remove the screws, remove the block, and the barrel will slide right out. If you have a WMR or HMR, you can get a barrel for the other, and exchange them. Same goes for the 22LR and 17M2. You can not exchange between the 22LR, and WMR/HMR action lengths.
The Hornet is a stand alone. The barrels are threaded and torqued in, just like most centerfire rifles.
SAKO makes/did make the QUAD which has interchangable barrels and magazines for all 4 rounds(22LR, 17M2, 22WMR, and 17HMR) available or just one if you wish.
Usually the 77/22 will do decently with the first f5 shots then as the barrel warms will open up groups. There are some tweaks that can be done to minimize that.
