Loads for the 50-95 lever action
Have the new Chapperal 1876 Winchester clone in 50-95. Anybody have some loading data? New manufacture made to SAAAMI specs, faster twist then originals, should be able to handle something a little beefier then the aniemic Ten-X stuff that costs 3x what it should. Anyone thats got some load data on this please share. Thanks

History of 50-95 caliber
The largest calibre for the Winchester Model 1876 "Centennial" rifle. Rifles of this calibre were sometimes called the "Cat Gun" due to the fact that many of them were used in Africa and India on lions and tigers.
The short 300 grain express bullet had a reputation of delivering a tremendous blow up close on soft skinned game, but was also known to loose it's velocity quickly at extended ranges due to it's fat and stubby bullet shape.
Rifles have a barrel twist rate of approximately 1 in 60", so it is unlikely that bullets heavier than 350 grains will stabilise.0 -
while this rifle may be mgf. with better steel the basic design is still rather weak. I've got one in .40/60 and has about the same power as a .44 mag. in a rifle. the loading listed above should be about max. Trail Boss powder would be a good one for this cal. as well. 0 -
