a local gun shop has bushmaster stripped lower for $225.00. It is marked 6.8mm. Is this a decent buy? Will it work to build a .223?

  It will work but that seems awfully high to me. I see good AR-15 lowers for around 130-140 around here.
  
  Yes it would work for a .223. If I were you I would check out essential arms. Their prices are still pretty good considering the panic.

  That seems high to me. Check out the GB auction side. You can find RRA stripped lowers for 180 bucks or less and RRA complete lowers for $400 or less.

  Too much $$$ you can get em here for much less w/ shipping and transfer.
  
  You can get a complete lower for around 350.00 shipped.

  Unless you're in California or a state that has "pre ban/banned" that's quite a high price. And even in CA you can get stripped AR 15 lowers in the $160.00 range.
  
  I think Bushmaster makes their carbon AR 15 lower, stripped they're about $225.00 or so - but for plain old aluminium that's high. Perhaps someone wants to make some $$$ off the "they'll be banned" scenario.
