Heym Pre-War 7mm Sporter
I have a beautiful Heym Pre-War Sporter in 7mm Mauser (7x57). It has an old Lyman 48 peep and never had any rear sights. It has beautiful figured walnut and has very fine checkering. Other features are engraved butt-plate with trap door, engraved butter-knife bolt, brass name-plate inserted at bottom of butt-stock (never initialed). I believe this gun to be all original and period. Beautiful condition with a bore that shines. On barrel (in silver written A. Heym Suhl Germany). Gun has a small chip behind bolt that was re-glued...probably years ago. 23" barrel. I am thinking this gun to be worth in the $2000 range...any thoughts on it's worth??? Thanks!!

Please post quality photos of rifle, with close up of all markings.
One of the most important factors concerning value, is if the rifle was built on a original commercial Mauser action. After the war a lot of sporters were built for the G.I.'s, on reworked 98's & 98 K's. It makes all the difference in the world, money wise. The Lyman receiver sight, without any other provision for a rear sight would be a indication of this type of post W W II work. The pre W W II commercial guns, wouldn't have had this kind of sighting setup.0 -
Please post pictures or send them to me. August Heym left Suhl after the war and moved to west Germany. Heym made custom sporters for the US market between the wars.

It sounds like a post WW-1 and pre WW-2 Rifle built on a WW-1 98 action, possibly a WW2 GI bringback.
