What is the big deal with primers? You drop the hammer and they go BANG. Why are Eley better than others? Any difference in function with rim or center fire?

Magnum primers are used with slower burning powders generally like Hodgdon H335 & Winchester 748. Most reloading manuals have a powder chart that lists powder burning rates from fastest to slowest. I would recommend the primer that your specific bullet/powder reloading guide manufacturer recommends. If you use a regular primer with a slow powder you will not blow up your rifle or vice versa. The powder may not be as effective if you use the wrong primer. I have just recently seen at the local gun shop that Winchester rifle primers can be used to interchange either way and states so right on the can. 0 -
mags are a little thicker so the flash doesnt come back thru the primer.
you can put mag in standard loads, but standards in mag loads can cause flashbacks and popped primers.
some target grade guns with soft hammer strikes wont fire mag primers with 38 loads, so be warned.0 -
Let me correct myself on the Winchester Powder cans it states can be used with regular or magnum powdwers. 0 -
I noted that using the magnum primers in .45 auto may require a decrease in powder also, then you can work your way up. I wouldn't load too many before trying them out. As stated hear already, if you have a light spring(trigger work) the magnums may not function properly.
