7400 mis stamping

I purchased a Remington 7400 Carbine in a 30-06 that is around 90-95% and was made in 1989. The barrell is stamped with "7400 Carbine" and the receiver is stamped with "7600". I called Remington and they told me that if Remington and noticed the mis stamping, the rifle never would have left the factory. Just curious if anyone else has one that is mis stamped and what if any the collectability value would be? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    If it hasn't been rebarrelled, factory goofs such as this specimen may fetch some BUCKS from the right collector. However, just finding that particular individual is now THE task before ya. Do ya have any history on it - such as orig box/paperwork, or owner's statements?

    From '89, believe this one predates Rem's "re-tooling" fiasco from the mid '90's (or so, IIRC) whereupon they commenced to turn-out pure junk under the guise of "modernization" & SPC.

    Thank you for the information. I did realize that Remington had some issues with this model but I thought the price and year of manufacture was right, $475.00 considering the condition it is in. There is no box or paper work with it and I bought it from a good friend that has the best little gun shop around. "The Right Caliber" in NW Iowa. A little plug for him. He bought this one and several other flavors from a gentleman that was giving up his collection, too bad, I hate seeing this kind of thing. Again I thank you for your fast reply and if any one else can shed any more light would be great.

    I talked to the owner of the gun store where I bought it and he is going to ask the orginal owner if the box and any paper work is still available. He is also going to ask for a written statement from the orginal owner verifing that the barrel is orginal with the rifle. Don't know if a written statement will hold any weight or not.

    The trick is always finding the guy who thinks it is worth more AND is willing to pay that. I would say, "That is interesting, but qiven their quality issues in recent decades, not surprising." I would not give an extra $5 for it though. To me, 90-95% made in the last 20 years is a very nice shooter, not a collectable.
