Model 96 Swedish Mauser continued PIX ADDED

Pictures of the rifle are now posted on original Model 96 thread thanks to Nonsense. It appears to be a long rifle, not modified 23 inch barrel. Should I assume bolt is not original since it has a ladder sight instead of peep site? Owner does not speak english...having to communicate with middle man over there.

    The bolt should carry the same serial number as on the left side of the rifle's receiver.

    the rifle 'should' have a straight bolt handle, that said the swedes did make a short carbine version at the same time as the rifle pictured (1916 by your other post) that used a bent bolt. If it is original to the rifle it should have the last 4 digets of the ser. # stamped on top of the bolt knob, the glare from the flash hides the spot on your pix.

    Kokanee82...looks like you have a Swedish Model 1896 with a Model 1938 bolt as MikeW is right that, to be correct, it should have a straight bolt. Or it could be a turned down bolt from the short 1894 carbine. But the bolt could also have been turned down by a gunsmith. The correct bolt to the rifle will have the last three digits of the serial # on the bolt head, matching the last three digits of the serial # on the left side of the receiver. If not, you have a mismatched rifle which hurts its collector value significantly although Swedes are getting rarer as the market is drying up. But they are great shooters, nonetheless. Good shooting!
