Shotgun headspace ???

I would think that a shotgun would head space on the rim of the shell the same way as a rimmed rifle of pistol cartridge. If this is true, I can understand how you could check the head space on a semi-auto, pump or a bolt action shotgun.
With an O/U, SXS, or a single shot, would the action just not close on the NO-GO" gauge?

    That just about sums it up. If the gun were to close on the "no-go" gage, the rim cut is too deep.
