97 Winchester pump & 00 buck

I have a 97 win. date of mfg. 1903 in very tight and soild condition,is it safe to shoot modern 00 buck loads in it?

    Seeing your shotgun is well over 100 years old, it would be prudent to have a gunsmith inspect and test fire it. Be sure to have him check the chamber depth. Some of the older shotguns were chambered for shorter length shells, then are used in modern guns.

    Has been checked buy local smith and test fired by him as well, haed space checked and ok'd,It just never occured to me to ask about the 00 buk I've already shot a box of low brass 7 1/2 in it. It functioned perfectly.Just was wondering about somthing a bit stouter.

    The Model 1897 was made with a standard 2-3/4" chamber from day one, and yes, it is perfectly fine to shoot 00 Buck loads in it as long as it is in good mechanical condition.

    Not in this case. Winchester made the change to a 2-3/4" chamber intentionally with the Model 1897.
