winchester 1905 ????

the mrs brought back a mint 1905 winchester .35WSL from texas.
It was grandaddy's gun. he bought it new.
can some one tell me what this knob at the back of the receiver is for?
anyone know where i can get a copy of the owners manual for this?

    The knob on the back is a screw that is used to take down the rifle into two pieces. The top of the receiver separates from the bottom part including the trigger guard and magazine. I would suggest a good resource for you to learn about the Winchester Model 1905 would be a copy of John Henwood's book, "The Forgotten Winchesters".

    Hello Tom,

    I also have a Modele 1905 that was originally my grandfather's[:)]

    The knob is used to take down the rifle. All Model 1903, 1905, 1907, and 1910s are take downs. Simply push the small rocker arm down so that the knob has the clearance to be turned. Do not under any circumstances disassemble the barrel assembly after you have it removed from the receiver assembly!

    thanks to both of you for the advice!
    I saw this gun about a year ago while visiting the inlaws.MIL remembered I liked it and sent it home with the Mrs today.
    I had no idea it was a take down!
    bert, I'm familiar with the 1905, 1907 and 1910, but not the 1903. what caliber was it?

    The Model 1903 was made for a special cartridge called the 22 Win Auto.

    No, I do not. That said, the Model 1905 is quite simplistic in design.

    Greetings tplumeri, Have you tried Rediscoved Shooting Treasures. They seem to have repo manuals on alot of things. I have a Model 1907, always lke this line.

    Easier to find a Model 63 (22LR) manual, very similar to the 1905/7/10
