    Sort of like BLUE-PRINTING a race car engine . Most firearms are built in factories with interchangeable parts. This tolerance can some times be so great that say on a 1911 pistol it when empty the pistol will rattle when you shake it. To accurize a 1911 one must tighten the slide to frame fit install a barrel that is over size and fit it to the slide and frame as well as replace the bushing and fit this to the barrel and then do a trigger job to get a smooth legal but light weight trigger pull. On rifles One might BED the barreled action to the stock replace the trigger with a aftermarket match trigger and re-crown the barrel or even replace the barrel .I hope this helps.

    For what it's worth I always considered accurizing as any modification made to original components with the aim of improving accuracy. I wouldn't consider barrel replacement, for example, to be accurizing, but recutting the muzzle crown, bedding, etc. as already explained, yes. From there the gray areas quickly take over. Is a replacement trigger an example of accurizing; spring replacements; etc??

    In my mind "accurized" just means that the gun in question was modified to improve accuracy.

    Usually it implies that the fit of the existing parts was improved to reduce tolerances, but I'm not sure the phrase excludes putting in aftermarket parts.

    EXACTLY what you need to get more accuracy depends on the gun, but things that people do include:

    -putting in match barrels.
    -lapping barrels.
    -free floating barrels.
    -glass bedding barrels
    -recrowning barrels
    -improving triggers (either by stoning of parts, or outright replacement)
    -Improving concentricity of bolt actions
    -lapping lugs on bolt actions.
    -tightening slide-frame fit on semi-auto pistols.
    -tightening bushings on semi-auto pistols,

    And I'm sure there are other things I can't think off right now.

    Its just a pitch word to sell products that has no real defined standards other than in the shooting community which the manufacturer doesn't always hold up to. We assume it means all of that. When I bought my COLT CAR-15 (Colt Accurized Rifle) I thought it would be alot more than it was. Just another Colt AR but they put a 24" stainless barrel on it. Call it a "Match" barrel. It doesn't stand up to a douglas or a krieger by anymeans. And the trigger is far from "Accurized"

    I'd say it really depends on the firearm in question. Accurizing a mauser M98 military action is very different then a Rem 700 action. A 1911 can have much more done to it then the average plastic fantastic. If I was looking at something that was suposed have been improved I'd want the full list of what had been done, who had done it and when. If such a list isn't readily availble, I'd be concerned. But, in the end will it shoot smoother and more acccurately, one would hope but it is not always the case. This is also why the primium on used accuratized firearms isn't usually equal to the cost of have the work done in the first place.....
