Scope mount for AR-15?

Hello all,

I am no expert, so i was wondering of you guys could help me.
I just purchased a bushmaster AR-15 with the rear sight/handle on it. I am pretty sure i can mount a scope on top of this handle but i am not sure if i can mount just any scope or if i have to buy a specific scope which is designed for the AR? Lastly would I need to buy special mounting brackets seperatly??

would it work better if i removed the handle to fit scope on it?

    Do you have a detachable carry handle? If not then there is no way to remove it.

    If you have a detachable handle removing it and using standard scope rings is your best bet.

    If you have a fixed carry handle there are mounts made for that too. While there are some very cheep ones out there that only work ok. If you want a good one I would expect to spend about $75 on the mount.

    The ARMS mount has been around a LONG time, and is an excellant carry handle scope mount.

    The mount mentioned above does work, but IMO it never worked for me to mount a scope, eotech, or red dot that high. I would take the handle off or buy a stripped upper and replace you current one if it has the fixed type. My favorite set up is a flip up rear sight, plus some sort of optic above the front sight. But that's the nice thing about an AR, set it up how you like it.

    I keep two seperate uppers for my AR. One is the carry handle iron sighted 16" military stype setup. The second is a bull barrel flat top scoped varmint style setup. I up graded the trigger in the lower. My thinking is that when you want to target/varmint shoot use the second. The first is for emergencies like Katrina or earthquakes and such when scoped precision is not the order of the day.....

    You get what you pay for. Especially with the handle style mounts.

    I have never understood why a guy would buy a several hundred rifle and a several hundred dollar scope only to put poor cheep rings and/or mount on the gun. It is like having a heavy duty chain hooked together in the middle with some bailing wire.

    I do not need any special scope with this bracket, it is universal??

    Colt sold a scope for the handle with built in mt.it was a 3 power with BDC 200 to 500 yards.It has a see thru for open sights.Im still looking for a 6.8 upper dont know if they were made with handle for mine.tks hedge[:D]

    Its not junk, but I'd look around on the auction side too make sure that one has the best price. I like the ARMS mount you where looking at, plus the Pentax better myself, but thats just me. You just need some regular "Low" weaver scope rings to mount the scope onto the mount.

    The only thing with the scope is the ring size. If the mount has the rings attached, then you wil need to know if you are going to use a scope or sight with an inch tube or 30mm tube. If the mount is just a base then you add the rings, you can just get the mount now.
