Savage 24

Can the chamber of a Savage model 24 chambered for .222 remington be modified to shoot .223 remington, and would it be safe to do so?

    Anybody ever installed choke tubes in an older Savage 24, or seen one modified this way?

    The selector switch is on the hammer; at least it is on my 24V. Flip it up or down to change barrel to be fired.

    sounds like the same type of selector that is on mine. do you have the mounting screw?

    You can install a later hammer that has the selector in the hammer.This is a common problem with the 24.I went with a friend to a gun smith over 50 years ago to get 2 Model 24s fixed that had lost their selectors.A drop of locktite should fix Model 24 that still have the screw and selector in place.Cant see why a machinest couldnt turn a new selector button and use a shoulder screw with some locktite.

    A very common problem with the Savage 24s that had the selector switch on the side of the receiver. A hammer with the selector on it will work, but it has to be from a 22/410 or 22mag/410 as the larger calibers use a higher hammer.
