.22 Tommy Gun

I was working today trouble shooting some porblems on some equipment next to a shelve and look down and there were three weapons leaning in the corner. The .22 Tommy Gun had a shrowd, it looks like it would take a drum, it is very short, black stock, made in Florida. The rifle was so dirty that I could not read the maker or the model of the rifle. Interested in knowing what I was looking at.

    N0! .22 caliber, looks like a Tommy Gun, the name on the top of the receiver is TOMMY GUN!

    My WAG it is a "PPS 50", as shown in this photo. A number of companies imported and sold similar looking .22's with drum magazines and shrouded barrels in the past. One was located in FL.

    By "NO" are you saying the link I provided you to MY .22 caliber 1927a3 Thompson made by Auto-Ordnance in West Hurley is not a .22, or that it is not made by Auto-Ordnance?

    Are you saying that all the info in that links and info from other members about drums, serial number dates, and production is not correct?

    What are you saying "NO" too?

    Could be but I know my PPS50 does not have "TOMMY GUN" stamped on the top.

    Nwcid, I did not see Thompson .22 in your post or link and I have not seen a Thompson .22, I have fired a .45 Thompson and know what they look like and did not think it was remotley like a Thompson. Thank, you for the info.

    Rufe-snow, now I recember the PPS 50 marked on the receiver, there was quite a bit on info I could not see! Are these worth anything and how hard would it be to find the drum?

    I am sorry but you posted seeing a ".22 Tommy Gun had a shrowd". You then also posted "N0! .22 caliber, looks like a Tommy Gun, the name on the top of the receiver is TOMMY GUN"!

    So I have no idea where I got the idea it might be a Thompson.


    I am sure there were some other small companies that made .22 caliber Thompson STYLE guns since there were some that made .45 cal ones. Gun made by Auto-Ordnance will have the trademark bullet with the name Thompson stamped inside on the top.

    You say the gun you are looking at has TOMMY GUN stamped on the top and that it was either imported or made in FL.

    The Bingham PPS50 that I have was imported though GA. The markings on top of the receiver is "US FOREIGN PATENTS APLIED FOR".

    I know there was a company that bought up the old stock of Bingham stuff a couple years ago and finished a bunch of rifles and sold them all. I am not sure what state they were in or if it would have the same markings or not.

    These guns either take 30rd stick (about $100 and not very common), or 50 rd drums that seem to run in the $350+ and are semi rare.

    The problem is that there two different versions, The one from Italy is better quality then the one made in the P.I. They also take different magazines. If you can get a good deal on the one you saw it might be worth while? If it's functional, and you can obtain the correct magazine(s). Specially if it's the Italian made one.

    Here is a link to the company in FL, who was selling them. They might be able to help you with magazines and values. If it does prove to be the Italian one that took both then drum and stick mags? I have a couple of the original Italian made stick mags, if they don't have any available.
