removing gas tube AR15

Ok I got the retaining pin out with the proper punch. I want to take my gas tube out. Should it be very difficult to pull out? I don't want to reef on it and screw something up

    If you already tapped out the retaining pin pulling the gas tube from the gas block is easy, but it is a tight fit. Holding the gas tube "just tight enough" with pliers won't hurt it, I usually turn it in the hole first just to break the hold. Then a combo of wiggle and pull gets it out.

    Hold the tube, turn the sight or gas block.

    not sure at what stage youre at in disassembly,i usually push(tap)out the gas block pins first,they are tapered and go out(or back in)one way only,then slide the gas block with tube attached further out along the barrel,then pop the gas tube pin,then i have plenty of room to pull out the tube.some people just remove the bolt/carrier,then the ret pin and pull the tube out of the gas block towards and into the upper receiver.there will be resistance due to residue built up in the tube housing part of the gas block,one time i used a swatch of gorilla tape to get a good purchase on the tube,didnt leave marks and cleaned up with solvent.hope this helps

    You need to be careful not to bend the gas tube when removing or installing a gas tube because it needs to be centered in the Bolt Carrier Key or you'll wear out a side and lose gas pressure.
    They are soft and easily bent.

    This sucker is really stuck in there. I sure don't want to ruin it. I'm replacing it and installing a gas piston system. guess I'll try some heat.

    Sometimes they are stuck in there really good. Especially if you have shot a lot (4-5k) of rounds through it. The carbon gets around it and acts like concrete. If you have a new gas tube to put in (which if the old one is stuck, would be a good idea to replace it) then no biggy.. clamp on (behind the gas block)it with vice grips turn it 90 degrees back and forth to loosen it a bit and tap (the hammer tword the receiver) into the upper receiver with a brass or rawhide hammer. Then pull it out tword the gas block/ front sight and remove it from the receiver. Clean out the hole where it goes into the uypper receiver with degresser or brake parts cleaner and the new one should slide right in.

    Thanks Vice grips after some WD40 and I worked it out. I didn't ruin it just scuffed it up a bit. I'll file it in the storage box marked Shtuff I'll never use again![:)]
