I was told that when Remington 788s were being manufactured that some people were redoing some of them and replaced some of the bluing parts such as the bolt and trigger gaurd with nickel. Has anyone ever heard of this?

  I have an early 70's model 788 it's had alot of shots fired trought it. Once in awhile it will not fire when you pull the trigger. It seems to be getting worse lately. Any thoughts on the problem would be helpful.

  My complete 222-788 rifle is nickeled, not sure if the factory did it or not...

  Anything is possible but I seriously doubt that Remington went to the trouble and expense to nickel a rifle selling for $100-150.
