Llama 9mm Government

I just picked up a Llama 9mm pistol at a local show. It is marked Llama Cal 9mm Parabellum on the left side and on the right side it is stamped Gabilando CIA Vitoria [espana]. the reciver is stamped on the right side GAI - 00BR Miami Fla. It has black plastic grips with Logo. It is 1 " shorter than my 1911 45acp but looks very simalar to it. Any information would be great and maybe a time period of production.This isn't really pretty just a solid knock around I think.

    Llama made many different models over the years, that they were in business. It's quite hard to identify them, as the early ones weren't marked. They were identified by Roman Numerals only in the company catalog and litture.

    It sounds from your description that you might have some variant of the "Model XI", with a ventilated rib on top of the slide.

    "GAI-00BR Miami Fla." is the name of the U.S. importer/distributor, that is required by U.S. law.

    The Spanish Proof Marks on the pistol, will contain a coded proof date, so that when the pistol was manufactured will be known.

    Most likely the import mark is "CAI" for Century Arms International.

    Although similar to a 1911, it is unlikely any parts will interchange.

    johnnie I just bought the full size model at a gun show a few weeks ago for $150[:D] and it is a great shooter. SOME 1911 parts will interchange but not all. Any standard 1911 magazine for a 9mm will work as well. You basically bought a "Commander" version. Ajax makes nicer grips and you may even find used pachmayers at a gun show. Mine functions fine with FMJ and hollowpoints but you will have to see if yours does. There is a seller on the auction side who specializes in Llama parts & smithing-just do a search for Llama there and you will find him.

    These parts generally interchange--(taken from a 1911 forum)

    Barrel Bushing
    Guide Rod Assembly
    Springs (Recoil, Hammer and Sear)
    Trigger
    Hammer
    Main Spring Housing
    Barrel Link and Pin
    Bushing Type Compensators
    Hammer Strut
    Sear and Sear Disconnect
    Rear Sight (may require the removal of the firing pin safety - depends on the sight)
    Red Dot Sight and Mount (may require ejector and ejector port modifications)
    Beavertail Grip Safety (not quite interchangeable, but the standard one can be reshaped to allow for a higher grip)
    Magazine (7 and 8 shot Max I C/F,L/F and IX-A,B and FireStorm Gov't/Compact only)

    All the above parts require gunsmithing fit and assembly along with the proper double checks for function and safety--except for magazines which should fit without a gunsmith.

    I have an elerly family member that owns a Llama 9mm stainless, 1911 style. It has a 9 shot mag and he only has one. I'm trying to find him a couple more with no luck. I've tried to get him to go with something newer (glock,ruger, etc.)

    Any old 9mm Llama 9 shot mags out there???

    The last Llamas that were imported into the States were sold under the Firestorm name by a importer/distributor located in New Jersey. You might try a GOOGLE search using Firestorm and Llama as the search terms. If you can locate the importer/distributor, they might be able to help you get magazines.

    I RECENTLY BOUGHT A LLAMA 380 MODEL 111-A IN 90% CONDITION. IT WAS IMPORTED AND WARRANTED BY STOEGER INDUSTRIES, 55 RUTA COURT, SO. HACKENSACK, NJ, 07606. I WANTED TO BUY A FEW ADDITIONAL MAGAZINES, SO I CALLED THEM. NO LUCK. BUT THEY JUST MIGHT HAVE SOME 9mm MAGS LEFT OVER. (LLAMA HAS BEEN OUT OF BUSINESS ABOUT FOUR YEARS. ANYWAY, I LOOKED ALL OVER AND FINALLY FOUND THE LLAMA MAGAZINES AT NUMRICH GUN PARTS CORP. 226 WILLIAMS LANE, PO BOX 299, WEST HURLEY, NY 12491-0299. (SALES) AT 1-866-NUMRICH.
