Colt Government .380 - question.

I recently purchased a Colt Government .380 - MK IV Series 80 - that's kept in pristine condition.

I shot a 50 round box through it earlier this week with no problem. I stripped for cleaning no further than the slide and recoil spring, scrubbed with and old toothbrush, and put the gun back together.

Something impedes the magazine travel from going all the way in.

I stripped the gun once again, removed the stocks, took a closer look, and noticed that the ejector swings freely. I don't know if this is normal. Such piece engages the magazine and swings up to a point (about 120* from it's vertical position), but not beyond the edge of the frame. I can see no other impingement on the magazine's travel.

Is the ejector designed to work as such? Could this be the problem, or should I look for other cause?

    There is a moveable part on the left side of the frame. When replacing the slide this "lever"? has to be pushed down to it's "locked" position. After this the slide can be mounted on the frame. Inserting the magazine , reactivates the lever. If the magazine won't insert all the way, make sure the lever is free to move. As it is designed to "extend" when the magazine is inserted, after reassembly.

    hi, sounds like when you were cleaning you pushed the ejector down too far. if I remember correctly, hold the receiver upside down, push the spring back with a little screw driver so the ejecctor can go back to it's proper position.

    ...To be safe and merciful, since the little pony is terminal beyond any and all life saving procedures known, poor thing needs to be put down, only merciful thing to do at this point BTW, is to send it to me and I'll do the heart breaking job for you...[^]

    Actually, I'm replacing the grips with genuine American Elk from Eagle Grips.

    I am also considering having the gun engraved.

    It is one sweet little gun

    This always drives me crazy when cleaning the Colt .380. You hold it down a little, then a little more, and then you go too far, and down the mag well it goes! Love the gun anyway!
