S&W model 15??

MOONED
I have what looks exactly like a model 15 but there is no model number on the crane. Was there a "pre" model 15? I have seen some autions indicating this but do not know how accurate the statement "pre model 15" really is.

I have had aa model 15 and handled several. This gun is exactly like one. The serial number is 150100, which puts it as an early 52 - 53 model (so I've been told).

I cannot post pictures at this time but opinions and feedback are appreciated.

    The Combat Masterpiece came out about 1951.
    I prefer to call it by name instead of "pre-model 15" but something with a number seems more recognizeable to the Internet Generation.

    Thanks for the reply. I had a Combat Masterpiece a while back. I guess prior to 1958, S&W did not use model numbers to associate their firearms.

    Mooned....... Smith began assigning model numbers in 1957. Yes, there was a "Pre-model 15", thats what you have. Your serial number 150100 should have a "K" prefix and was made in 1952.

    It was called the K-38 Combat Masterpiece. Pretty much the same gun, just stamped differently. I have one in my collection.

    LEFTY- You are correct, there is a "K" preceeding the serial number. Thanks for the info.
