ak47 barrel

how can you tell if the ak barrel is sweaged or threaded

  Most of the time, the only time you will see an AK barrel with threads, would be on a very old milled reciever, or on something like a Kreb's, maybe. The rest are pressed and pinned to the trunion, or milled reciever. From what I have seen, the few AK's I have handled with threaded barrels were all sf.

  Beat into the trunnion with a rubber mallet and held in place using pop rivets....

  On stamped receivers the barrel is pressed and pinned in. On milled receivers the barrels are threaded.

  You are not totally correct. Most of the milled recievers since the 1965 era have been pressed and pinned. You can thread a barrel into a trunnion just as well as you can a milled reciever too.

  The pressed fit is actually a good interfearance fit with a 0.001-0.002" press fit. No beating with a rubber mallot on this one. You can actually put them together(the press fit) with no tools if you know what you are doing...a rubber mallot ....not even a chance.
