What model AR do I want????????

I am looking for a certain model, not sure what number I'm looking for, i.e. R6721, R6920, etc. Don't want the grenade launcher notch in the bbl.

What I want all in the same rifle is the following features:

bayo lug
flash hider
no sear block
removable carry handle
heavy bbl

I'm sure there is something else I'm not thinking of at the moment. A question, does this rifle in the following link have a sear block? How can you tell by SN#, or date range whether or not a particular rifle has a sear block?

Of these mfgs which would be a good pick? Colt, Bushmaster, CMMG, other????

    One that I would want is one that has a gas/piston arrangement so I don't clean carbon out of the action for days after I shoot it.

    Seriously, the action you are looking at for what you are getting is kind of high for a buy it now. The rifle-$1100, the ammo $150 (it's only 500 rds. not 1000), the tactical vest-$100... it's not even body armor. four plastic mags? I don't know how they work, not sure if they are better than GI mags that work all the time... $80? that's my assessment. Take a look around you may find better deals. And, get what you want.

    You need to give a better idea as to what you want in an AR. Home defense? Varmint/target? Standard availability?

    Edit:

    Not sure what you are talking about with a sear block. The standard AR 15 mil-spec type trigger group has the sear blocked solid, non-adjustable, at the rear of the sear. It would take an M16/M4 trigger group to change that. But, note that is trigger group which is not legal under normal circumstances, you must get the class III ownership federal tax stamp.

    Thanks for your response. The auction I posted was strictly as an example of what I have been looking at. Don't want to link the "actual auctions" I'm looking at, someone might buy it out from under me.[;)]

    I do realize that I would need a federal tax stamp to obtain and install a registered sear in the rifle I pick. I want an AR mainly to get one while I still can when prices aren't even more ridiculous. I want one for plinking, varmint, target, fun.

    Particularly in these times of extremely short supply I think the rifle (being a Colt) would be closer to the $1500 mark. Yes? No?

    I wouldn't have absence of a sear block on my list of requirements. I can't imagine that you would ever want to buy a sear block. If I were someone who spent > $10,000 on toys, then I'd get the REAL thing: a Colt factory M16.

    Colt added the sear block feature > 20 years ago, so just about the only Colt that would not have it is the AR-15 SP1 or SP2. Forget the Colt model numbers; they will just confuse the issue. The other manufacturers vary; last time I checked, Bushmaster still did not have a sear block.

    The removable carry handle requirement means you want an AR in "A4 configuration".

    Any of the manufacturers you named make quality guns, as does RRA, S&W, & many others. Search our forum archives for "AR" & do some reading for even more information.

    If you plan to buy at auction, be sure that you know exactly what features are on the specific gun you are looking at, as returning a gun can be difficult &/or expensive.
