Win Model 1897 Rescue!
I was cleaning out the back storage building belonging to my FIL (he's still alive!) and came across 4 neat old guns. One of them being a Winchester 1897. The metal finish is brown and the stock is in good shape, but loosing the finish from being in a shed.
I cleaned up the metal with Rem- oil and it looks good so far.
Question is:
My FIL bought it for $40 off a "drunk who needed cash" years ago, but he still thinks the gun is just old junk but won't sell it.
Since the gun MIGHT be worth only $400 or so in it's present condition, would you refinish the stock if you were to just keep it.
I prolly would not sell it, but it's a cool shotgun just to have.
I will likely inherit it in the next few years and had to ask.

I would just clean it up and shoot it as is. 0 -
Murphy's oil soap on the stock and maybe some good wax. Go hunting. 0 -
