Berthier 1892

Anyone have any information on this old French military weapon? It is a Berthier MLE 1892 MD. It has a round barrel and has a bayonet lug. It also has a place along the barrel and stock where perhaps a cleaning rod went. The right top side of the barrel is stamped MA S 1914.

  It was made at the St. Ettiene arsenal.

  There is a paragraph or two in this month's American Rifleman about the Berthier; page 40 or so.

  I was interested in how many were made, as well as caliber and specifically what the barrel stamping ment.
