    I have only seen one complete set before and on that auction it brought over 4000.oo this was about 3 years ago I was going to bid on it but the first bid that day brought it out of my price range

    I'm not an expert by any means, but I do have a few 99's and am always watching for more. I've seen a number of these over the last few years with asking prices any where from $2500-$5,000
    My WAG would say, you are 6,000-7,000 high.
    If it was mine, I'd list it starting at $2500 with no reserve and let the bidders determine the value. Quality collectors guns very seldom disappoint at auction.

    I bought one 3 or 4 years ago (no case) in good shape for $1,100 which was the asking price. I knew it was a decent deal at the time but not that good.

    The case will be the detemining factor to whether it gets big dollars or not. Just having the 99 in .300 with a extra .410 barrel is not nearly as desireable, as .410 barrels can be found at gun shows and auctions and easily added to any savge TD.
    The prices range in the $3,000 and up range, if they are complete, unaltered, and in good condition. I know of one locally that is very nice,(100%) but professionally refinished with original case, and it's for sale at $2500, with no buyers yet.

    The complete set is what has value here. I think $5,000 is a bit optimistic for a starting price. I would start at $2,000 - $2,500.

    Normally, I would say $2,000 is a good starting point for what you have if you have something that says it was done up as a set from the factory custom shop.

    Unfortunately, the downturn in the economy has lot of unique and high end sets/pieces like this coming out in hopes of bringing cash. Prices will vary according to how many of these are seen in a short amount of time. Some hold value some drop in value.

    From what I've seen, (I'm not a buying/selling collector, so by no means an expert) during times like this is to hold on to whatever you don't feel will hold value unless you absolutely need to sell it. You won't get near what it's worth until the market recovers. Something more tangible such as a Purdy, H&H or authentic older Winchester will hold value better in the collectors market. I have seen upper end Savage 99's and '99 sets go upwards of 4k. Putting it out where you think it will draw bids is a good indicator of how strong they hold in their respective market.

    In a nutshell! 2000.00 to 2500.00 there has been a rush on any savage 99 lately but as someone has already said the downturn in the economy has all but stopped the big rush to buy! I have a few 99s and have a set like yours that I bought about 6 years ago and I dident give half of what your asking. good luck!
