ruger p85
I found a P85 with the case & two magazines for $250.00. It seems like a good deal judging by what the blue book says. My main question is are these good guns? I have never owned a Ruger, but need to have a larger caliber carry gun. Any info is definately appreciated.

hello what is the value i know i dont have pics but it is 98 percent gun in the box and outer cardboard box with 4 extra 15 round magazines that are new. blued
that way i have an idea on starting price when listed.

it is a ruger p-85 no updates from ruger yet 1989 production 300-72225, in the ruger plastic case withe the manual, plastic bag for the gun, ruger lock, 2 magazines and everything it came with plus the outer box that covers the black plastic case. and 4 extra magazines. the only wear is just the rear of the barrel but it might clean up fine but i havent tried. other wise the rest of the p-85 looks like it has never been out of the box. i used the magazine in the gun but dont think i ever used the other 5.
lee all the auctions you showed were p89.
the magazine that i used does not even show any wear at all. i think i might have shot 30 rounds through it but not sure but it looks great.0 -
Is it an original P85 or a P85 MkII??? 0 -
The P85 was introduced around 1987 and discontinued in 1992 following the introduction of the P89. The original gun is marked on the slide "Ruger P85". A modification to the safety was introduced around 1989 and the slide marking was changed to "P85 Mark II". Existing pistols were factory modified at no charge and had a "MKII" or "MKII R" stamped on the safety lever.
They originally came with 2-15 round magazines, a ruger logo brass padlock, a magazine loader and a black box.
In the condition you describe and noting that there is not a lot of collector interest in the P85, I would guess your pistol would sell in the $350 to $450 range. I would list it with good photos and complete description at a starting bid of around $300 and let the buyers determine the value.

Either way your not going to get $300 for it, at least at a gun show or on gunbroker. You might be able to find someone locally or a buddy. Ruger P85, P85mk II, and P89's I typically see used even almost new around $250.0 -

The thing is, people will only bid up to about $300 at most. The ones over that, no one bids on and they don't sell, they just sit there.0 -
I saw a P85 MKII sell in like new condition at a shop the other day for 289.00 0 -

And, one should automatically add an additional $50 to the GB prices to account for shipping and FFL on the receiving end, average of $25 for each.
I stand by my estimate of around $300 starting bid for a retail sale. With 6 magazines total, all 15 rounders, I would say he has another $75 in mags to sweeten the pot.
