After the Sale Question

Hello and thanks in advance for your help.

I just sold my first gun (shotgun - being shipped to another state) on GB and I have a few questions.
Other than getting my buyer's name, address, phone and ship-to-FFL; what other information should I ask for? Do sellers ever request a copy of driver's license, social security number or other info?

    Nope, you just need to know what FFL to send it to...

    I would never send anyone a copy of my driver's license or social security number it's not necessary or smart.

    Since you have the FFL that you are mailing the gun to that pretty much covers things, the transfer would be from you, to the FFL and from the FFL to the buyer. That is how the paper trail would be reflected.

    You need to ask the buyer, "Does your FFL understand that I am not a licensee, & is he OK with that?"

    The buyers FFL may request a photocopy of your DL, & that is not an unreasonable request. An FFL needs to enter your name/address into his bound book, so he wants to be sure that he has entered accurate information. "Unknown" doesn't cut it with the fellas with the bulges in the cheap suits.

    You don't need a hardcopy FFL; just the number is sufficient. But, you should verify it on ATF's website using FFL EZ-Check, & print out a copy for your records to CYA.

    I agree. Always compare the name/address on the FFL with what is listed on the E-Z check website. If information is different, you may have a bogus FFL. It happened to me. Here's the link: Good Luck!

    Hello Oldshooter---I totally disagree with what Crisisbill, and D@D have said. As a FFL holder, I am willing to accept transfer from unlicensed individuals, ONLY if I get some form of Gov. issued I.D., like a drivers license. The last time I checked, they still have vacancies at Leavenwort, but I don't want to go there. And since the boys at ATF have no sense of humor

    I think you've come across your first issue that should be addressed in your advert. Some FFLs are fine getting delivery from a nonFFL while others are not and others - well, depends on if the buyer is a good long term customer or only occasional.

    So what happens if the buyer's FFL now wants a copy of your DL and you don't want to send it? The back up is that you send it from your FFL and he's going to probably charge you a few bucks.

    So the tag line on your advert "Buyer is responsible for ensuring his FFL will accept delivery from a non-FFL. Shipping from my FFL will cost an additional $XX.00" is helpful.
