U.S. Springfield Model 1871 info

hello, could anyone advise me where i could obtain information on this old rifle, trying to figure out its value. thanks
U.S. springfield with model 1871 on one side and the other side says US springfield 1872

    The best thing you could do, would be to post quality photos of your rifle.

    With the date markings you describe, the rifle most likely is the Model 1871 Remington Rolling Block, made under license by Springfield Armory. It was chambered for the U.S. military 50-70 cartridge. Potentially it could be quite valuable, depending on originality and cosmetic condition.

    It does appear to be the U.S. Army Model 1871 Rolling Block. Only 10,000 were made at Springfield in 1871/72. Your photos don't show the muzzle end of the rifle or the wooden stock adequately. If everything is as it should be, including the cleaning rod? it appears IMHO to grade out as being in Very Good condition. Probably in the $800 to $1200 range, to a knowledgeable collector of 19th Century U.S. military firearms.
