Remington 742/7400 ????

wanted man
Could someone please tell me how much interchangeability there is between these two models, assuming that both rifles are the same caliber??

    wanted man,

    As far as I know, the only thing different is the bolt, and the reciever/barrel where the bolt locks up, and possibly the gas port/system. The trigger group will interchange for sure, as will the stocks, forend, and magazines. The Model Four is the same as the 7400, and they have 4 locking lugs on the bolt, where the 742 has 7(if i remember correctly.

    The Weatherby Mark V has nine. I have a 742, and will count them in the near future.

    ALMOST NOTHING INTERCHANGES, THE BUTT STOCK MAYBE BUT NONE OF THE OTHER PARTS WILL (WELL THE MAIN SPRING AND TUBE MIGHT).

    I think you should look again. The trigger group from the 740, and 742 will fit and function in a Model Four or 7400. The magazines, butt stocks and forends will also. Basically all that changed in the Model Four and 7400 was the Four lug bolt and the gas port size to compensate for it.

    New made magazines with the plactic bottom will not fit the older Models 740 and 742. The new magazines are made in Spain, and demintions are silightly off for the older models. Remington refers folks to us for the older magaines.

    Forearm is also differetnt the older Models 742 and 740 made before 1975, have wider and thicker action arms and new forearms will not fit.

    "The trigger group from the 740, and 742 will fit and function in a Model Four or 7400.".........THEY MAY 'FIT AND FUNCTION' BUT THEY ARE NOT THE SAME, THE MAGAZINE LATCH IS TOTALY DIFFERENT. WITH ALL THEY JUNKED 742'S AROUND WHY TRY TO MAKE A 'MIXMASTER'.
